False consul advised Danish authorities
The immigration authorities have continued to work closely with a former consul from the the Democratic Republic of the Congo even though she was stripped of her diplomatic status in 2016.
The National Police have for the past three years coordinated with the woman on deportations as they believed she still had official status – according to Berlingske the ‘false consul’, Marie Pambi Pedersen, negotiated with the immigration authorities on five separate occasions and was consulted on the extradition of at least three Congolese nationals.
Immigration lawyer Jytte Lindgård, who’s defending a Congolese woman fighting deportation, said it’s ‘grotesque’ that the Danish authorities shared sensitive personal information on her client and her family with a person who didn’t even represent DR Congo.
Ms Pambi Pedersen told Berlingske she has only provided assistance for cases involving voluntary extraditions and claimed she wasn’t informed she had been stripped of her honorary consul status until January this year.
